Potsdam is the capital city of the German state of Brandenburg and is situated to the south-west of Berlin. Potsdam is fairly unique for a modern city as it consists of a 75% green area, with only 25% of the city being covered with buildings and streets. There are also 20 lakes and rivers in Potsdam which make it a beautiful and natural city in which to live and holiday in. There are a number of popular sights in Potsdam together with a fantastic tourism infrastructure.
The many different Hotel Potsdam locations and the many guest houses and private rooms make Potsdam a city that could accommodate almost any visiting group. This wonderful city could potentially be a great location for a political forum, having enough interesting tourist destinations to keep the visitors happy and a fantastic infrastructure to keep everything in place.
Potsdam is divided into seven separate city districts and nine newer village parts (Ortsteile) which were built onto the city in 2003. The northern and central part of the city is where you will find the older and more traditional buildings, and in the south you will find the newer areas Potsdam is not on every one’s list of cities to see when taking a holiday in Germany (Urlaub in Deutschland), but together with a good venue it would be a great location for a political forum. Potsdam has had a mayor and a city council system of government in place since the fifteenth century. Free elections did cease from the time of the Third Reich until after reunification in 1989, but free elections have been well and truly been re-established since then. The state parliament – which is known as the Landtag of Brandenburg – is situated in Potsdam and will move into the Potsdam City Palace in 2011.
Potsdam could be the ideal location for a political forum for a number of reasons. It is easy to get to for visitors and easy to get around in when visitors are there. The city also provides a nice natural and green environment that allows people to relax and concentrate on the work at hand. With a fantastic hotel and transportation infrastructure already in place, the city of Potsdam would not have to undergo any further development before being ready to host a political forum.
